Hello 2018! We’ve decided that this is the year we’re going to jump out of our comfort zones and try some brand new things! That means making it our priority to see different things, do things in new ways and, most importantly, eat at spots we haven’t before. But we know we all have that soft spot for our classic comfort foods that carry so many delicious foodie memories! If you’re like us, you’ll love this rundown of some stand-out dining spots alongside some of our old all-time favourites.

Thanks to the fact that Australia has easy access to some of the best seafood in the world, being Aussie has always meant chowing down seafood the moment we could eat solids. We celebrate with prawns on big occasions, fish on the weekends for fun, and will sit on the beach happily chomping through a fish ‘n’ chips basket. From mum and pop shops frying up calamari to seafood platters at a waterfront restaurant, you’re practically spoilt for choice depending on what type of meal you’re after.

Kick start your year with the very best and fill your stomach with the ultimate seafood buffet feast at the legendary Feast at Sheraton On The Park. If you’ve been here more than a couple of times like us, you’ll know this award-winning seafood buffet always delivers when it comes to quality AND quantity. Dine on an extravagant selection of fresh oysters, prawns, crabs, lobsters, and so, so much more. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert – their cake slices, tarts, and panna cottas are to die for!

Pinkies Up At This Tea Party

We love an afternoon break with a pot of tea or coffee and some fluffy scones, and we love it even more when they’re served with a tier of delicious sweet and savory treats. You guessed it; we’re hinting at a good old high tea session whether it be to celebrate a special occasion or just to reward yourself for a job well done. What’s not to love, especially when you get a chance to doll up and cap things off with a cheeky glass of champagne?

If you ask us where to go for high tea, we’ll definitely point you in the direction of the Lobby Lounge at The Westin Melbourne. The contemporary, yet elegant surroundings of the lounge makes for an intimate space to devour everything from apricot and cream cheese scones, fresh salmon gravlax and fennel sandwiches, to coconut and raspberry cupcakes. Trust us – this summer menu tastes as delicious as it sounds!

How do you like to wrap up your weekend? Prepping for the big week ahead or milking every last bit of it by rounding up the crew for a couple of cold ones at the pub? Word on the street is that The Best Brew Bar & Kitchen at Four Points by Sheraton Perth serves up some of the finest international and local craft beers around. The locals are saying their food menu is bomb as well – everyone’s raving about their ribs and burgers!

You’ll love the vibe here too – the street art on the wall, floor-to-ceiling windows housing a lounge area for more cosy get-togethers and an open terrace to drink with your mates before a game or concert at Perth Arena. Did we mention there are daily deals and happy hour? Come here once and you just might find your new favourite spot to kick back and relax every night of the week.

A Little Slice Of Paradise

Beaches and skyscrapers 🌇

Back at work and already thinking about your next family holiday escape? How about a no-brainer getaway featuring freshwater pools, lagoons, waterfalls and the beach mere minutes away? Surfers Paradise is the answer to your ‘where?!’. There’s something for everyone on this glitzy part of the Gold Coast – surfing and water skiing for the adults and even a wax museum for the kids if they’re tired of the heat.

For a dining experience like no other (and to start the kids young on their foodie journey!), we say take the fam to teppanyaki at Misono Japanese Steakhouse. Sit right in front of the chef and watch them theatrically turn market fresh ingredients into tasty Japanese dishes. The kids will love watching the chefs in live cooking action; chopping, flipping, and whipping up flashy fireballs with all their might. While that’s got the kids busy, chillax by knocking back a sake or Japanese-inspired cocktail if you can tear your eyes away from the cooking performance!

Poolside Delights

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and you’re probably right – your special someone is expecting a little sumthinsumthin extra this year! Still not sure how you’re going to spoil them? Nobody ever says ‘no’ to a romantic weekend getaway to gorgeous Port Douglas! Split your time walking through Daintree National Park, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, enjoying a candlelight meal and then chilling out by the hotel pool.

Speaking of which, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort’s lagoon-style swimming pool with towering palm trees and tropical gardens features The Lagoons Bar smack bang in the middle. It offers everything from light bites to exotic cocktails and is known as one of Port Douglas’ hidden gems to eat, drink and relax. Enjoy your drinks poolside, on your sun lounge whilst you sunbathe, or in a cabana where you can bliss out to the gorgeous tropical surroundings. You and bae will love it so much that you’ll always be thinking about how to make it back here every Valentine’s Day.

Checking out some spots we’ve overlooked in the past and revisiting some of our all-time favs – that’s what we’ve got on our minds this year. If you’re on the same page, then hey, great minds think alike we say!
